Make sure that you reserve early! Our dog-friendly rooms book quickly!

Dog-Friendly Beaches

The most highly rated beach to take your dog to is Carmel Beach. Here you can let your dog off-leash (as long as the dog responds to voice commands). He can romp in the surf and run free! Take a walk along the Scenic Path, which spans from Carmel Beach to Carmel River Beach. You will have access to magnificent views including Pebble Beach Golf Links.

The other beaches require dogs to remain on a leash. These include Carmel River State Beach, Garrapata State Park, Monterey State Beach, Del Monte Beach, Pfeiffer Beach, and Asilomar State Beach.

Dog-Friendly Restaurants

Many restaurants in Carmel will seat doggie and master together in covered and open-air patios, as well as several indoor locations. You will see lots of water bowls and doggie treats, with a few restaurants that have dog menus with kibble, grilled chicken, steak tartare, and other treats.

Most will have heaters for outdoor dining when nights are chilly. Check out the full list with ratings. There are at least 36 restaurants that welcome dogs—so many to choose from!

Dog-Related Stores

If you have forgotten essential treats or kibble for your furry friend, there is no need to worry! There are more than a dozen shops to choose from, including the usual chain stores and a number of specialty stores. For gifts, treats and apparel, check out Diggedy Dog.

The Cottage of Sweets has treats for both you and your puppy! Other shops specifically for dogs include the Carmel Dog Shop, the Raw Connection, and  Brad’s Barkery. There are also numerous places for grooming and bathing or even boarding.

Dog-Friendly Hiking Trails

There are 15 dog-friendly hiking trails in Carmel. We have already mentioned the Scenic Path between Carmel Beach and Carmel River Beach. Other off the beach locations include the Mission Trail Nature Preserve, Garland Ranch Regional Park, the Monterey Bay Coastal RecreationTrail in both Pacific Grove and Monterey. There may be areas on these trails where your dog is not allowed; check for maps and guidelines at the entrance.

Dog-Friendly Wine Tasting Rooms

We also have several of the local tasting rooms that welcome dogs with their visitors. These include Galante Vineyards, Albatross Ridge, Dawn’s Dream Winery, Holman Ranch, and Scheid Vineyards. Please be aware that most of these tasting rooms require reservations.

There is so much to do, you’ll want to stay for several days! We have just a few things for you to keep in mind prior to your visit. Please do not allow your dog to get up on the furniture or the beds. Whenever you are outside your room, please have your dog on its leash. Following our CA State Health Code, dogs are not allowed in the pool or the spa. We have a designated “P-Mail” area on the front lawn in front of the lobby. Also, please note there is a pet fee charged over and above your room rate. Always make sure that you clean up after your pet. Biodegradable bags are available at many sites.

We hope that your guide to a dog-friendly trip to Carmel, CA will help you plan your next stay at Carmel Valley Lodge. We are sure that you will both have an amazing time!
